Volunteer

Traditional volunteers are an integral part of the Akron Art Museum. Although there are currently limited volunteer opportunities, applications are accepted at all times. We keep all applications on our waiting list, and will contact applicants with the required skills, interests, and availability for interviews as volunteer positions become available.

Qualified candidates should possess a love and appreciation of art, a flexible attitude for dealing effectively with the public, basic computer skills—including familiarity with the Internet—and an understanding that reliability is critical.

Below is a listing of general volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in volunteering, download a volunteer form and submit it to the Membership Manager. Volunteers must be 18 years or older.

Retail Store Assistants

Retail assistants will work with the store manager to provide customer service, sell museum related merchandise and sell memberships.

Docent Positions

Become a tour guide in the museum, touring both school and adult groups. Docents will also visit schools, child development centers, senior citizen groups and community organizations. No special background in the arts is necessary. Just bring your love of art and working with others.

Education Projects

Help with children's activities, art demonstrations and workshops, Downtown@Dusk summer concerts, lectures, films and much more.

Membership Events and Recruitment

Help with Members Only! events and recruit the community to join the growing Akron Art Museum membership.

Special Fundraising Events

Enjoy involvement in such events as the Akron Wine Auction; volunteers in this area help to continue the tradition of community support for the museum.

Preview Parties

Volunteer during exhibition openings and other special events; this is an exciting evening or weekend opportunity.
